Position Summary The Staff Nurse/Delegating Nurse Manager is responsible for monitoring and addressing the health concerns of residents through regular assessments, medication administration, and communication with physicians. The Nurse ensures accurate documentation of medical care and supports the overall quality of client services by attending team meetings and maintaining open communication with staff and clients. Additional duties include training and supervising Certified Medication Technicians (CMTs), conducting health screenings such as TB and drug tests, and participating in quality improvement initiatives. The position also requires availability by phone to support staff and complete various assigned tasks.
Primary Responsibilities: - Monitors the health concerns of all our residents, providing nursing assessment and intervention as appropriate.
- Monitors sudden or on-going illness of all clients.
- Monitors the labor of prenatal clients.
- Performs initial 45-day assessments during site visits and follow-up visits to assess clinical status every 45 days.
- Schedules and dispenses medications according to Physician’s orders
- Acts as a liaison between the Agency and outside physicians/medical staff.
- Monitors the maintenance of complete and appropriate documentation of client and administrative concerns.
- Prepares the Clinic Log (written shift report)
- Documents nursing evaluation and intervention in the appropriate logbooks.
- Maintains accurate and timely completion of all medication records.
- Assists the team effort in the provision of quality care.
- When available will attend scheduled staff meetings and in-service education programs in order to enhance the team effort and to comply with licensing regulations.
- Maintains and encourages positive lines of communication with clients, co-workers and supervisors.
- Participates in Program and Quality Improvement process by collecting and analyzing outcome data, suggesting program enhancements, and implementing identified programmatic changes.
- Trains uncertified staff to become Certified Medication Technicians [CMTs] for initial certification and for renewal of certification. Supervises CMTs in medication administration.
- Is readily available/accessible by telecommunication (phone/cell phone) to staff involved in delegation.
- Administers and reads results of Tuberculin Skin test injections given to current and prospective employees and clients.
- Administers drug and pregnancy urine tests for prospective clients and residents as needed.
- Accepts and completes other duties as assigned.
Qualifications - Bachelor’s degree in Nursing
- Current Maryland Board of Nursing
- Licensure as a Registered Nurse in Maryland
- Delegating Nurse Trainer Certification or willingness to obtain the certification
- Two to five years of nursing experience
- Good working knowledge of pediatrics, adolescent, and/or maternal health
- Ability to communicate effectively, in writing and verbally
- Knowledge of child development and adolescent behaviors
- Supervisory experience is desirable
- Strong computer skills and experience with Microsoft, databases, and Internet research
